    〜並み (~nami) — on a par with ~ / ~-level

At the same level as a standard — プロ並み, 平年並み, 人並み.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N + 並み + の + N
    N + 並み + に + …
    N + 並み + だ

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

The weather report on TV: 「明日は真夏並みの暑さになるでしょう」— 'tomorrow will be as hot as midsummer.'

    Meaning

「〜並み」says the level, amount or ability of something is about equal to the standard N.

    How to attach

    • Attach it as N + 並み; then 「並みの + N」「並みに + verb/adjective」「並みだ」.
    • 人並み = like ordinary people (人並みの生活), 十人並み = average, neither especially good nor bad.

    Versus what you know

    • N3The difference from the 「〜のような」(looking alike) and 「〜くらい」(degree): 並み measures level, not appearance — speed (新幹線並み), skill (プロ並み), temperature (平年並み), crowds (休日並みの混雑).
    • 「じみた」in this lesson is only negative, but 並み is neutral or praising.

    Watch out

The key rule: N is always the yardstick, and the meaning is only 'the same level' — it isn't used for looking alike (✗父親並みの顔); say 「父親に似た顔」there.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    今日は四月なのに、真夏並みの暑さになるそうです。

    きょうはしがつなのに、まなつなみのあつさになるそうです。

Even though it's April, they say today will be as hot as midsummer.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 真夏 = the height of summer (the standard) → 「並み」= at that same level → 「の」 → 暑さ = heat → "as hot as July–August, already in April".

    ラジュさんは来日五年で、日本人並みに敬語が使える。

    ラジュさんはらいにちごねんで、にほんじんなみにけいごがつかえる。

Five years after coming to Japan, Raju can use keigo as well as a Japanese person.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 日本人 = a Japanese person (the standard) → 「並みに」= at that same level → 敬語が使える = can use keigo → comparing skill.

    給料は高くなくても、人並みの生活ができれば十分だ。

    きゅうりょうはたかくなくても、ひとなみのせいかつができればじゅうぶんだ。

Even if the pay isn't high, it's enough if I can live an ordinary life like everyone else.

    How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 人 = (ordinary) people → 人並み = like everyone else → 「の」 → 生活 = life → できれば十分だ = it's enough if I can live it.
