〜くせに (~kuse ni) — even though (critical)
"And yet they still…?" — a "but" with irritation in it.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
Like 「〜のに」it marks a contrast, but 「〜くせに」adds criticism and annoyance: 「新人のくせに、態度が大きい」= he's new here, and yet he's so full of himself.
How to attach
な-adjectives and nouns take な/の: 「元気なくせに」, 「子どものくせに」.
Watch out
- Two rules.
- First, the subject before and after must be the same person — and it is used about others, not about yourself.
- Second, the tone is unkind, so never use it about a superior or a customer.
