Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- You are chatting with a friend: 'That place is cheap, and on top of that it's tasty — no wonder there's a queue!'
- It is spoken and full of feeling — 'just look at that!'.
Meaning
- 「〜ときている」= 'it has this striking feature, so the result is obvious'.
- It is usually said with two features stacked together (安くておいしい・遠いし家賃も高い), and carries the speaker's surprise, admiration or complaint.
How to attach
- Plain form or a noun + 「ときている」: 安いときている・優秀ときている
- Drop 「だ」after nouns and な-adjectives
- Usually followed by 「から・ので・んだから」and a 'so of course ~' result, or the sentence stops right there, leaving 'what more can I say'.
Versus what you know
- 「〜とあって」in this same lesson also means 'because of a special situation', but that is a calm news report.
- N2Don't mix it up with 「〜ことだし」either; that gives a soft reason leading to a suggestion like 'so let's go'.
Watch out
It is not used in official notices, news or formal documents.
