    〜からある (~kara aru) — as much as ~ (or more) — a big amount

Stating a big weight, length, height or distance and stressing 'that much!'

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    数 + 単位 + からある + N

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • A friend who works in a warehouse says: 'Today I carried rice sacks of a good thirty kilos all day.' — 「30キロからある米の袋」
    • It sounds a bit written, news-like.

    Meaning

    • He is not just saying 'thirty kilos' — he means 'that heavy, maybe even more!'
    • 「〜からある」paints 'at least that much, maybe more'.

    How to attach

    • Number + unit (キロ・メートル・トン) + 「からある」, always followed by a noun that fits the number (荷物・道・壁)
    • For a price: 「〜からする」(20万円からするバッグ)
    • For a number of people: 「〜からの」(1万人からの人)

    Versus what you know

It overlaps with the 「〜も」you know (30キロもある).

    Watch out

Only for big amounts of weight, length, height or distance — not for a small number like '3 grams', and not for time.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    祖父は30キロからある米の袋を一人で運んだ。

    そふは30キロからあるこめのふくろをひとりではこんだ。

My grandfather carried a sack of rice weighing a good thirty kilos all by himself.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 30キロ = thirty kilos (a heavy weight) → 「からある」 = that much or even heavier → then the N that goes with the number: 米の袋 = sack of rice → 一人で運んだ = carried it alone.

    学生のころは、片道8キロからある道を毎日歩いて通った。

    がくせいのころは、かたみち8キロからあるみちをまいにちあるいてとおった。

When I was a student, I walked a good eight kilometers each way every day.

    How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 片道 = one way → 8キロ = eight kilometers (a long distance) → 「からある」 = that much or more → then the N: 道 = road → 毎日歩いて通った = walked it every day.

    地震で、高さ5メートルからある壁が道路に倒れた。

    じしんで、たかさ5メートルからあるかべがどうろにたおれた。

In the earthquake, a wall a full five meters high fell onto the road.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 高さ = height → 5メートル = five meters (very tall) → 「からある」 = that tall or taller → then the N: 壁 = wall → 道路に倒れた = fell onto the road (news style).
