    〜までもない (~made mo nai) — there's no need to ~ / needless to say

The matter is so small or so obvious that 'there's no need to go that far'.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    V辞書形 + までもない

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

At work a piece of paper gives you a tiny cut on the finger. A friend panics — 'Let's go to the hospital!' — and you laugh: 「このくらいなら、病院に行くまでもないよ」— 'for something this small there's no need to go as far as the hospital.'

    Meaning

「まで」means 'as far as', so the feeling of 「〜までもない」is: the matter is so light or so obvious that there is no need to go as far as doing that.

    How to attach

    • Attach it straight to the dictionary form of a verb: 行くまでもない・確認するまでもない.
    • In the middle of a sentence it becomes 「〜までもなく」— the one you hear most is 「言うまでもなく」, 'needless to say, everyone knows'.

    Versus what you know

N3「〜ことはない」(心配することはない = no need to worry) also means 'no need', but it is the language of comforting or advising someone; 「までもない」instead says 'this action itself isn't necessary, because the matter is already clear'.

    Watch out

The key rule: it only goes with verbs for things you do on purpose (行く・調べる・説明する); it doesn't fit things that just happen, like 「雨が降るまでもない」.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    このくらいの傷なら、病院に行くまでもない。

    このくらいのきずなら、びょういんにいくまでもない。

For a cut this small, there's no need to go to the hospital.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) このくらいの傷 = a cut this small (it's minor) → 病院に行く = to go to the hospital (dictionary form) → attach 「までもない」 = no need to go that far.

    会社は駅の前にあるので、地図で調べるまでもありません。

    かいしゃはえきのまえにあるので、ちずでしらべるまでもありません。

The office is right in front of the station, so there's no need to look it up on a map.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 駅の前にある = it's right in front of the station (obvious) → 地図で調べる = to look it up on a map → make 「までもない」 polite: 「までもありません」 = no need to look it up.

    工場では、言うまでもなく安全が第一です。

    こうじょうでは、いうまでもなくあんぜんがだいいちです。

In a factory, needless to say, safety comes first.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 言う = to say → 「までもなく」 (the mid-sentence form) = no need to say it, everyone knows → then the thing everyone knows: 安全が第一 = safety first.
