    〜には当たらない (~ni wa ataranai) — there's no need to ~ / it's not worth ~

Surprise, blame, worry or praise — a form that calms the reaction: 'this doesn't call for that'.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    Verb V辞書形 + には当たらない
    N N [する] + には当たらない

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • A friend just arrived from Nepal is amazed: 'Japanese people ride the train for an hour to get to work!' You say: 「東京では普通のことで、驚くには当たらない」— 'in Tokyo that's normal, nothing to be surprised about.'
    • It is somewhat formal: articles, speeches and advice.

    Meaning

「〜には当たらない」says someone's reaction or judgement — surprise, blame, worry, despair, praise — is too much for the matter, so it isn't appropriate.

    How to attach

    • Attach it to the dictionary form of a verb (驚くには当たらない), or drop 「する」from nouns like 「非難」「称賛」and attach directly (非難には当たらない).
    • It is also written in hiragana as 「にはあたらない」.

    Versus what you know

    • The earlier 「までもない」says 'it's obvious, no need to do that action' — it's about actions (確認する・調べる); 「には当たらない」is about feelings and judgements.
    • It looks like 「〜にかたくない」you learned before (に + 〜ない), but the meaning is totally different: that one is 'easy to imagine', this one is 'that reaction isn't called for'.

    Watch out

The key rule: it only goes with verbs of feeling or judging — 驚く・悲観する・責める・心配する・称賛する; it doesn't fit ordinary actions like 「駅まで歩くには当たらない」.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    東京では一時間の通勤は普通で、驚くには当たらない。

    とうきょうではいちじかんのつうきんはふつうで、おどろくにはあたらない。

In Tokyo a one-hour commute is normal; it's nothing to be surprised about.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 一時間の通勤は普通 = a one-hour commute is normal → 驚く = to be surprised (a feeling) → 「には当たらない」 = nothing to be surprised about.

    一度試験に落ちたからといって、悲観するには当たらない。

    いちどしけんにおちたからといって、ひかんするにはあたらない。

Just because you failed the exam once, there's no reason to lose hope.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 一度試験に落ちた = failed the exam once → 悲観する = to lose hope (a feeling) → 「には当たらない」 = no reason to lose hope; there are still chances.

    彼は規則どおりにしただけなので、非難には当たらない。

    かれはきそくどおりにしただけなので、ひなんにはあたらない。

He only followed the rules, so he doesn't deserve to be blamed.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 規則どおりにした = did it by the rules → 非難 = blame (「する」 dropped) → 「には当たらない」 = it isn't right to blame him.
