    〜に足る (~ni taru) — worthy of ~ / enough to ~

'Enough to trust', 'enough to convince' — a stiff way of judging that something meets the bar.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N + に足る + N
    Verb V辞書形 + に足る + N

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • When a company picks a new head, or the news discusses a report, you hear: 「彼は信頼に足る人物だ」— 'he is a person worthy of trust.'
    • With a friend, 「信頼できる人だよ」is enough.

    Meaning

「足る」is the old form of 「足りる」(to be enough), so 「〜に足る」means 'has enough of what it takes for ~'.

    How to attach

    • To attach it, drop 「する」from nouns like 「信頼」「尊敬」「満足」and add 「に足る」directly (信頼に足る); with a verb, use the dictionary form (任せるに足る).
    • A noun usually follows: 〜に足る人物・もの・理由・証拠.
    • For 'not worthy', the sentence end is normally made negative (〜に足るものではない)
    • The 「〜に足りない/〜に足らない」form mostly lives in set phrases like 「取るに足らない」(not even worth mentioning, trivial) and 「恐れるに足りない」(nothing to fear).

    Versus what you know

It feels close to the 「信頼できる人」you already know, but 「できる」only says 'can'; 「に足る」judges, in a stiff written voice, that 'on careful inspection it meets the bar'.

    Watch out

It is not used for physical actions — you cannot say 「歩くに足る道」; it is a word for measuring worth.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    この調査は対象者が多く、信頼に足るデータだと言える。

    このちょうさはたいしょうしゃがおおく、しんらいにたるデータだといえる。

This survey had many participants, so it can be called data worthy of trust.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 対象者が多い = many participants (the reason) → 信頼 = trust (「する」 dropped) → attach 「に足る」 = enough to be trusted → then the noun: データ.

    田中さんは、大事な仕事を安心して任せるに足る人物だ。

    たなかさんは、だいじなしごとをあんしんしてまかせるにたるじんぶつだ。

Tanaka-san is someone you can safely entrust important work to.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 任せる = to entrust (dictionary form) → attach 「に足る」 = good enough to be entrusted → then the noun: 人物 (person).

    市の説明は、住民が納得するに足るものではなかった。

    しのせつめいは、じゅうみんがなっとくするにたるものではなかった。

The city's explanation was not enough to convince the residents.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 市の説明 = the city's explanation → 納得する = to be convinced → 「に足る」 = enough to convince → 「ものではなかった」 = was not (the negative sentence ending).

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3
