〜もしないで (~mo shinaide) — without even ~ing (criticism)
When someone skips even the minimum and rushes into something — 'without even doing that?'
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
You work at a convenience store. A customer storms up about the new coffee machine — 'It's broken!' — but he hasn't read the instructions stuck right next to it. Your coworker whispers: 「説明書を読みもしないで、文句ばかり言うんだから」.
Meaning
「〜もしないで」= 'without even doing that' — criticism that someone skipped the most basic step they should have taken (reading, checking, apologising) and went on to something else.
How to attach
- Attach 「もしないで」to the ます-stem of a verb (読みもしないで・謝りもしないで); for する-verbs, put it straight after the noun (確認もしないで).
- In writing you also see 「〜もせずに」(確認もせずに).
Versus what you know
- The familiar 「〜ないで」「〜ずに」(朝ご飯を食べないで来た) are just a plain, emotionless 'without'; adding 「も」= 'even' brings in the anger or surprise of 'not even that?'.
- N2「〜ことなく」(休むことなく働く) is formal and usually praise — the opposite colour.
Watch out
The key rule: what follows is always something judged as bad — complaining, acting big, a rash decision — criticising someone else or regretting your own act; it isn't used for praise.

💡 Hint: ます-stem + 'even'.
ます-stem + もしないで. 見もしないで = without even looking (and then saying 'I don't want it'?).
In which sentence is 「もしないで」unnatural?
💡 Hint: Criticism, or an invitation?
もしないで criticises ("without even ~"), so in a polite invitation it sounds rude. Just say 「どうぞ遠慮しないで」.
Which is closest in meaning to 「知りもしないで文句を言う」?
💡 Hint: 'Without even knowing' — and still complaining.
知りもしないで = without even knowing = よく知らないのに (criticism). A plain 「知らないで」doesn't carry this annoyance.
