〜をもってしても (~o motte shite mo) — even with ~, (still) not possible
'Even that great power couldn't do it' — news and essay language that shows how hard something is.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- After a typhoon, an expert says on the news: 「最新の予報技術をもってしても、今回の大雨は予測できなかった」— 'Even the latest forecasting technology could not predict this heavy rain.'
- Common in news, editorials and essays.
Meaning
- 「〜をもってしても」= 'even using that great ability or means, it could not be done' — which stresses how hard the task is.
- It first grants how great N is before saying 'and still no'.
- What follows is always negative: 〜できない・不可能だ・難しい・分からない・〜なかった.
How to attach
Straight to a noun: 科学・医学・技術・経験 + をもってしても
Versus what you know
- It is the exact opposite of 「をもってすれば」just before.
- N2It overlaps with 「〜でも」(彼の力でも無理だ), but 「をもってしても」is more formal.
Watch out
N must be strong and highly valued, and no positive result can follow — 「彼の力をもってしても、楽に勝てた」is wrong; that is 「をもってすれば」territory.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

げんだいのいがくをもってしても、このびょうきのげんいんはまだわかっていない。
Even with modern medicine, the cause of this disease is still unknown.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 現代の医学 = today's medical science (a great power) → 「をもってしても」 = even with that → then a negative: まだ分かっていない (still not known).
社長の広い人脈をもってしても、新しい取引先は見つからなかった。
しゃちょうのひろいじんみゃくをもってしても、あたらしいとりひきさきはみつからなかった。
Even with the president's wide network, no new business partner could be found.

うでのいいしょくにんのぎじゅつをもってしても、このふるいとけいをなおすのはむずかしい。

Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
「世界一の選手の力___、この記録を破ることはできなかった。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: N + を + もって + しても.
N + をもってしても = even with ~. A negative follows: できなかった.
In which sentence is 「をもってしても」unnatural?
💡 Hint: Is the result positive or negative?
Only a negative result follows をもってしても. 'Won easily' is positive — that needs 「をもってすれば」.
What does 「AをもってしてもBできない」say?
💡 Hint: 'Even that much power…'
をもってしても = even great A couldn't → B is very hard. 'With A it can be done' is をもってすれば.
