〜ようでは (~yō de wa) — if things stay like this, (no good)
'If that's how it is, it won't do' — a condition with criticism in it.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- You hear it when a senpai or the manager is a little annoyed: 「そんなことも知らないようじゃ、この仕事は任せられないよ」(if you don't even know that, I can't leave this job to you).
- It is only for friends, juniors or yourself.
Meaning
- 「〜ようでは」= 'if things stay the way they are now, it won't end well' — and there is criticism in it.
- A negative judgement always follows: 無理だ・まずい・やっていけない・うまくならない・困る.
How to attach
- Dictionary form/Vない + ようでは: 遅刻するようでは・読めないようじゃ
- 「ようじゃ」is the spoken form, 「ようでは」a little more written.
Versus what you know
N4「知らなかったら任せられない」is a plain condition with no feeling; 「ようじゃ」pokes the listener: 'this really won't do'.
Watch out
- Said to the manager or a customer it sounds rude.
- Never a good result like 「早く覚えられるようじゃ、すぐ上手になる」.
