〜ったら (~ttara) — honestly, (name)! (exasperated address)
After a familiar person's name — 'honestly, you!' — affectionate exasperation.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
Your friend Ram forgets something every single day; today it was his wallet. Half laughing, half sighing: 「ラムさんったら、また財布忘れたの?」(honestly, Ram! You forgot your wallet again?).
Meaning
- 「〜ったら」= stuck after the name of someone close (a friend, your little brother, your mother) or a thing of yours (the dog, the old laptop) to say 'you again!'.
- It is exasperation, a complaint, criticism with some affection in it — it always carries 'ugh, this one!'.
How to attach
- N (a name, person or thing) + ったら
- 「〜ってば」means exactly the same and attaches the same way: お母さんってば
- What follows is the annoying thing they did, usually ending in 〜の・〜のよ・〜んだよ.
Versus what you know
- N3「〜って」(田中さんって、優しいね) is just a soft topic marker with no feeling; 「ったら」always carries exasperation.
- Don't confuse it with 「〜といったら」(忙しさといったら) either — that says 'how much!', this says 'what a person!'.
Watch out
Only with people close to you — never to the 店長, a customer, in email or any formal setting; there it is the name + 「さん」and a plain sentence.
