〜にほかならない (~ni hokanaranai) — is nothing other than / precisely

'This is precisely ~ and nothing else' — a firm, formal assertion.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N + にほかならない
Verb V普通形 + から + にほかならない

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • At the company's annual meeting the 社長 says 「会社を支えているのは、現場で働く皆さんにほかなりません」— 'what holds this company up is you, and nobody else'.
    • It is a hard, formal expression: speeches, essays, editorials, serious talk.

    Meaning

    • 「〜にほかならない」= the firm declaration 'this is precisely ~, nothing else'.
    • It is used to stress 'this is the biggest reason, the most important thing'.

    How to attach

    • N as is: 愛情表現にほかならない
    • To stress a reason: 「plain form + から + にほかならない」: 「彼が厳しいのは、心配しているからにほかならない」(the reason he is strict is nothing but worry).

    Versus what you know

    • 「〜にすぎない」points the opposite way: 「努力の結果にすぎない」shrinks it ('just effort, no big deal'); 「努力の結果にほかならない」lifts it ('it is the fruit of effort and nothing else').
    • N3「に違いない」is a confident guess ('it must be ~'); 「にほかならない」is not a guess but a declaration.

    Watch out

Not for small daily things like deciding what to have for lunch.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    試験に合格できたのは、毎日の努力の結果にほかならない。

    しけんにごうかくできたのは、まいにちのどりょくのけっかにほかならない。

Passing the exam is nothing other than the result of daily effort.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 努力の結果 = the result of effort (N) → attach 「にほかならない」 to the N as it is → a firm claim: "that's it, nothing else" → 「〜のは」 shows what we're giving the reason for.

    会社を支えているのは、現場で働く社員にほかなりません。

    かいしゃをささえているのは、げんばではたらくしゃいんにほかなりません。

Those holding this company up are none other than the staff on the floor.

    How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 社員 = staff (N) → 「にほかならない」 → in a polite speech, 「にほかなりません」 → a formal, emphatic claim: "it is you".

    店長が厳しいことを言うのは、あなたのことを心配しているからにほかならない。

    てんちょうがきびしいことをいうのは、あなたのことをしんぱいしているからにほかならない。

The manager says harsh things for one reason only: they're worried about you.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 心配している = worrying (普通形) → add 「から」 to make it a reason → 「にほかならない」 → emphasis: "this is the one reason, nothing else".
