「店長は何か_顔で、私のほうを見た。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:A 'wants to say something' look visible on the face.
Drop い from Vたい + げ (言いたげ) = an emotion visible on the face, with な before a noun. 言いたいそう is hearsay そう and cannot take な.
「帰国するか残るか、一晩_答えを出した。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Verb + 'thoroughly, day and night'.
Vます + 抜く = thoroughly, through to the end (悩み抜く・考え抜く). 切る is for using something up (使い切る), not 悩む; げ and ぶる do not attach to verbs.
「弟は日本に来てから、急に_、私の話を聞かなくなった。」— which says 'acting grown-up' (annoyed)?
💡 Hint:Not really one, just posing — with the speaker's irritation.
N + ぶる = putting on a character + criticism (大人ぶる). 大人らしい is praise for being genuinely adult-like; げ takes only emotion words.
Which sentence is unnatural?
💡 Hint:What kind of word can げ attach to?
げ attaches only to feelings (楽しい・不安・自信); with おいしい・高い there is no げ, say おいしそう.
Which sentence is unnatural?
💡 Hint:Does 抜く go with struggle, or with using something up?
抜く takes only verbs of struggle or effort (生きる・走る・考える); for using something up it is 使い切る, never 使い抜く.
The company president never puts on airs — praising him, how do you say 'a person who does not act big'?
💡 Hint:ぶる conjugates like a Group 1 verb — use its negative.
偉ぶらない = does not put on airs (praise). 偉そう = looks bossy (criticism); ふり is for faking an action or state, and a character word like 偉い takes ぶる.
A friend failed the exam and sadness shows on his face — which is 'a sad-looking face'?
💡 Hint:An emotion seen on someone else's face.
Drop い from the い-adj + げ (悲しげ) = an emotion that shows. ぶる is faking a character and does not attach to 悲しい; がち is for a recurring bad tendency.
「あの先輩は店長の前ではいい子_けど、裏では文句ばかり言っている。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Playing 'the good kid', then the opposite behind backs.
いい子ぶる = character word + ぶる, with the speaker's scorn. げ needs a visible emotion, 抜く a verb, がち a bad tendency — none fits here.
