Type in Japanese, kana, romaji or English. Every word and grammar point from N5 to N1.

    〜にて (~nite) — at / by (very formal で)

で in a suit — for notices, mail and the sign-off of a postcard.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N + にて

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • In a company notice, a 市役所 form or a formal email: 「現地にて解散となります」(we disband on site).
    • On a postcard to a friend back in Nepal the sign-off is 「京都にて 洋子より」— 'from Yoko, in Kyoto' — the classic closing line of letters and cards.

    Meaning

    • 「にて」= the same meaning as 「で」, just stiffer and more polite in writing — 「現地にて」= 「現地で」.
    • Same for means: 「電話かメールにてご連絡ください」= please contact us by phone or email.

    How to attach

    • Attaching is simple: N + にて, nothing else.
    • It works for a place (会場・現地・オンライン) or a means (メール・書面・電話).

    Versus what you know

    • N4You learned 「で」— 「学校で勉強する」(place) and 「バスで行く」(means); in speech it is always 「で」.
    • N3「〜において」is also a formal place, but it is the big word for 'in such-and-such a field/venue' in speeches and essays; 「にて」is the short, practical 「で」of notices and mail.
    • N3「によって」for means (法律によって) is a deeper 'based on that'; for 'by email' plain 「メールにて」is the right choice.

    Watch out

    • It is 硬 — the language of writing and notices; say 「駅にて待ってる」to a friend and it sounds odd, use 「駅で」there.
    • 「にて」does not cover every job of 「で」: reasons like 「風邪で休む」or counts like 「三人で行く」never take 「にて」.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    説明会は三階の会議室にて行います。

    せつめいかいはさんかいのかいぎしつにておこないます。

The briefing will be held in the meeting room on the third floor.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 会議室 = meeting room (a place) → it's a notice, so we use 「にて」 instead of 「で」 → then 行います (will be held).

    お問い合わせは電話かメールにてお願いいたします。

    おといあわせはでんわかメールにておねがいいたします。

Please make inquiries by phone or email.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 電話かメール = phone or email (the means) → 「にて」 in the slot where 「バスで」 would use で → then the polite request: お願いいたします.

    皆さん、お元気ですか。私は元気にやっています。東京にて、ラメシュより。

    みなさん、おげんきですか。わたしはげんきにやっています。とうきょうにて、ラメシュより。

Is everyone well? I am doing fine. From Ramesh, in Tokyo.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 東京 = the place where it was written → 「東京にて」 at the end of the card → then 「〜より」 for "from so-and-so" — the custom when sending a letter to Nepal.

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

「会場_受付を行います。」— fill the blank in this notice.

💡 Hint: The formal form of 「で」.
