    〜はさておき (~wa sateoki) — setting ~ aside (let's get to the point)

Leave the current topic and go to the main point — 「冗談はさておき」= joking aside.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N(+助詞) + はさておき
    N 疑問詞 + 〜か/〜かどうか + はさておき

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

That is what you say in a meeting to stop the chat and get back to the point: 「冗談はさておき、シフトの話をしましょう」.

    Meaning

「〜はさておき」= 'setting aside' — it drops what has been the topic until now and moves to the more important, basic matter.

    How to attach

    • N(+particle) + はさておき
    • 「question word + か」also attaches: 「どんな家がいいかはさておき」

    Versus what you know

    • 「〜はともかく」is also 'setting aside' — it leaves A to stress B (雰囲気はともかく、味は最高).
    • The job of 「はさておき」is a little different: it closes the current topic and moves to the main point.
