Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- 「〜ば〜のに」imagines something that did not happen and adds regret or complaint: 「若い時に始めればよかったのに」= you should have started when you were young.
- The final のに adds "but that isn't how it went", which is what separates it from plain 「〜ば」.
- Said to someone else it becomes a mild reproach: 「言ってくれればよかったのに」= you could have told me.
How to attach
「〜たら〜のに」works the same way.
