— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Fondly recalling what you often did.
Vた + ものだ = what you used to do, recalled fondly. ばよかった is regret, which clashes with 懐かしい.
— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:Regret about something already over.
Vば + よかった = should have (regret). したものだ is "used to"; ますように and といい look ahead, not back.
— fill the blank.
💡 Hint:The words you say to the gods, hands together.
Vます + ように = a prayer to the gods. たらいいのに is a wish with a complaint in it ("if only…, but…") and doesn't go with どうか; 合格しればよかった is a wrong form (it would be 合格すればよかった), and it is regret anyway.
(to a friend) — fill the blank.
💡 Hint:A hope that attaches straight to the dictionary form.
Dictionary form + といい = "I hope…". ますように needs the ます form (いきます); ばよかった and たものだ don't attach to the dictionary form.
(A new junior says, "I don't know the way to the station.") Which sentence gives advice?
💡 Hint:Telling someone "you could just…".
Vば + いい = "you could just…" (advice). ばよかった is regret; たらなあ is your own wish.
(but they said nothing) — fill the blank.
💡 Hint:"I'd have helped if…, but…" — a complaint.
Vば … Vた + のに = imagining what didn't happen, with a complaint. らなあ, ように and といい can't close a ば sentence like this.
(a rainy Sunday) — fill the blank.
💡 Hint:It's raining today — a wish you know won't come true.
Vたら + なあ = a wish for what you know isn't so. るといい hopes for something still unknown, but the rain is right in front of you.
Which sentence is unnatural?
💡 Hint:What kind of past does たものだ take?
たものだ recalls something done often long ago; for one swim yesterday, just say 泳いだ.
