Meaning
At N3 the same まで expresses surprise that things went that far: 「子どもにまで笑われた」= even the children laughed at me.
How to attach
It can follow other particles: にまで, とまで.
Versus what you know
- N5「〜まで」marked a limit of time or place (5時まで, 駅まで).
- N3It resembles 「〜さえ」, but まで carries the sense of "further than expected", and it also works with positive things: 「先生まで来てくれた」= even the teacher came.
