〜たびに (~tabi ni) — every time
Every time that happens, this happens too — a repeating pair.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- 「〜たびに」says that whenever one thing happens, another always follows: 「この歌を聞くたびに、国を思い出す」= every time I hear this song, I think of home.
- What follows is usually a feeling or reaction that arises naturally, rather than a deliberate action.
How to attach
It attaches to a dictionary-form verb, or to a noun with の: 「試験のたびに緊張する」.
Versus what you know
N3「〜ごとに」also means "every", but that is for measured intervals (3か月ごとに); たびに ties to an event.
