V dictionary form + ように なります / V ない-form + なく + なります (V-jisho + you ni narimasu / V-nai + naku narimasu) — Became able to ~ / stopped ~ing
I could not before, now I can — the pattern for talking about your own progress.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
This pattern is about **change** — something that was not true before is true now. Take the potential form from Lesson 2 and add 「ように なります」: 読める → 読めるように なりました = "I have become able to read." For the opposite, drop the い of the ない-form, make it く, and add なります: 食べない → 食べなく なりました = "I stopped eating it." Note that **なく なります takes no ように** — 食べないように なりました is wrong, and it is the most common mistake here. できる and わかる already carry the "can" meaning, so できるように なりました is correct; there is no できられる. 「なりました」shows a change that has already happened, 「なります」one that is still coming.

Question: 1/3Which says "I have become able to write kanji"?
💡 Hint: For "able to" you need the potential form from Lesson 2.
The potential of 書く is 書ける, and its object takes が: 漢字が 書けるように なりました.
Which says "I stopped smoking"?
💡 Hint: The negative change takes no ように.
The い of 吸わない becomes く: 吸わなく + なりました. Writing ように here is wrong.
How does this pattern work with 「できる」?
💡 Hint: できる already means "can".
できる needs no second potential form. It is simply できるように なりました.
