声 / 音 / におい / 味が します (koe / oto / nioi / aji ga shimasu) — A sound, a smell or a taste occurs
How to say what your ears, nose or tongue pick up directly.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Here します does not mean "to do" — it says that a sound, a smell or a taste is there, that you can feel it. That is what makes the pattern odd, but the words are fixed: 声, 音, におい, 味 — it works this way with these four. Use が, the subject particle, never を — 音を します is out, 音が します is right. In the past it is しました (変な 音が しました). To say where it comes from, add 〜から: 台所から いい においが します. Which to pick? Use します for what your nose, ears or tongue pick up directly; if you go on to guess from it, use ようです (何か 焼けて いるようです).
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
Question: 1/3「台所から いい におい します。」— which fits?
💡 Hint: Here します does not mean "to do".
The smell occurs by itself, so it needs が. においを します is wrong.
Which correctly says "there was a strange sound outside"?
💡 Hint: In the past, します → しました.
音が しました is right. Both 音を しました and 音が 聞きました are wrong.
In which sentence does します mean "is felt", not "to do"?
💡 Hint: Look at whether the subject is a person or a smell or a sound.
With 声, 音, におい and 味, が します says that it is there and you can feel it — the subject is not a person. In the other three a person does something or chooses (〜に します = to decide on).
