〜なしに(は) (~nashi ni (wa)) — without ~ (doing / having)
Without the thing that should be there (notice, permission, a booking) — the 'without' of notices and daily life.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- If someone skips work for three days without a word, the manager says: 「連絡なしに休むのは困るよ」.
- It works both in notices and in everyday talk.
Meaning
- 「〜なしに」= doing something without the step that normally should come first — notice, permission, a booking, advance warning — usually with a 'that wasn't right' feeling.
- Add 「は」, as 「〜なしには…ない」, and it means 'impossible without it'.
How to attach
- Straight after a noun: 許可なしに・予告なしに
- In speech, 「〜なしで」「〜なしでは」are also very common with the same meaning.
Versus what you know
- 「なしには」is like 「なくして」in the previous point, but not as stiff.
- N2「〜抜きで」(「わさび抜き」「冗談抜きで」) means deliberately leaving out something that is normally there; 「なしに」means the thing that should be there is missing.
Watch out
It does not attach to a verb — 「連絡するなしに」is wrong; with a verb you need 「ことなしに」, the next point.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
彼は連絡なしに、三日も会社を休んだ。
かれはれんらくなしに、みっかもかいしゃをやすんだ。
He was off work for three whole days without letting anyone know.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 連絡 = notice (something you should give) → 「なしに」 directly = without giving notice → then what was done that way: 三日も会社を休んだ.
許可なしに、この部屋に入らないでください。
きょかなしに、このへやにはいらないでください。
Please do not enter this room without permission.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 許可 = permission → 「なしに」 = without permission → then the notice's instruction: 入らないでください.
先輩たちの助けなしには、この仕事は覚えられなかった。
せんぱいたちのたすけなしには、このしごとはおぼえられなかった。
Without my seniors' help, I could never have learned this job.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 助け = help → 「なしに」+「は」 = without help → then 'it wasn't possible': 覚えられなかった.
Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
「予約___、このレストランには入れません。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: N + ? + は
N + なしには + negative. 予約なしには入れません = you can't get in without a booking.
Which sentence is wrong?
💡 Hint: Noun or verb before なしに?
なしに attaches only to a noun: 連絡なしに. With a verb you need 「連絡することなしに」.
「今日は仕事の話は___、楽しく飲もう。」— which means 'leaving it out on purpose'?
💡 Hint: Deliberately dropping something that would normally be there.
抜きで = leaving it out on purpose. なしには and なくしては need an 'impossible' ending, and ことなしに goes with verbs.
