〜たところで (~ta tokoro de) — even if you ~, (it's no use)
'What's the point? It won't make a difference' — even if you do it, the result is small or useless.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- You reach the station at midnight and the last train has gone. You start to run.
- Your friend says: 「今から走ったところで、もう間に合わないよ」— even if you run now, you won't make it.
Meaning
- 「〜たところで」= the deflated feeling 'doing it is useless, or the result is tiny' — the speaker's own verdict, 'what good would it do'.
- After it always comes a negative or 'only a little' judgement: 〜ない・無駄だ・〜だろう・せいぜい〜くらいだ.
How to attach
- Verb た-form + 「ところで」: 走ったところで
- 「いくら・どんなに・今さら」often comes in front.
Versus what you know
- N3「いくら〜ても」is a plain 'however much'.
- N3Don't confuse it with 「〜たところ」(when I did ~, I found) — adding 「で」changes the meaning completely.
- Point 1's 「ようと」says 'whatever happens, I stand firm'; 「たところで」says 'the action itself is pointless'.
Watch out
A wish, intention, request or past event (〜た) cannot follow — 「勉強したところで、合格した」is wrong.

いくら文句を言ったところで、決まったシフトは変わらないよ。
いくらもんくをいったところで、きまったシフトはかわらないよ。
However much you complain, the shifts that are set won't change.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 文句を言う = to complain → た-form: 言った → 「いくら」 gives 'however much' → 「ところで」 → then a negative: 変わらない.
残業を増やしたところで、手取りは月に二万円増えるくらいだ。
ざんぎょうをふやしたところで、てどりはつきににまんえんふえるくらいだ。

Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
「今さら___ところで、試験はもう終わっている。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: Which verb form goes before ところで?
た-form + ところで. 急いだところで = even if you hurry (it's no use).
In which sentence is 「たところで」unnatural?
💡 Hint: Is the result a negative judgement, or a good thing that happened?
たところで needs a 'useless / won't happen' judgement after it. A good past event (合格した) can't follow — say 「勉強したので合格した」.
「店長に相談した__、すぐにシフトを変えてくれた。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: The result is good and already happened.
「〜たところ」= when I did ~ (this happened). 「〜たところで」= even if you do, it's useless — it can't take a good, past result.
