〜を踏まえて (~o fumaete) — based on / taking into account
Standing on results, opinions or past experience and thinking them through before the next step — a business and news form.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- In a company meeting the manager says: 「アンケートの結果を踏まえて、来月から改善します」— 'taking the survey results fully into account, we will make improvements from next month.'
- It is stiff business and news language; with a friend 「〜を考えて」is enough.
Meaning
「踏まえる」means to plant your feet firmly on the ground. The feeling is: use something already done or known — results, opinions, a discussion, past mistakes — as the ground you stand on, think it through, and take the next step.
How to attach
- Watch out — the other forms in this lesson take 「に」, but here the particle is 「を」: N + 「を踏まえて」, and before a noun 「を踏まえた N」.
- What follows is thinking, deciding or planning (検討する・見直す・決める).
Versus what you know
- N2「〜をもとに」(事実をもとに小説を書く) shows raw material for making something; 「踏まえて」is about deciding or planning 'with that understood and kept in mind'.
- It also differs from the previous 「〜に照らして」: that one compares with a yardstick to judge right or wrong, while this one uses information as a base and moves forward.
Watch out
The key rule: information, experience or a situation goes in front — put a person there, as in 「友達を踏まえて」, and it sounds like 'stepping on your friend'.

💡 Hint: Information or experience in front, or a person?
