When to use it
- A news report opens like this: 「物価の上昇が続く中、…」— 'as prices keep rising…', and then the main story comes.
- The 「お忙しい中、ありがとうございます」you hear at work every day is the same thing — 'even while you are so busy…'.
Meaning
「〜中、」doesn't give a time; it sets a social situation or atmosphere as the background — the picture is 'inside this climate'.
How to attach
- Here 「中」is read 「なか」.
- Attach 「中」after a verb's dictionary form or 「ている」form, straight after an い-adjective, and after a noun with 「の」(厳しい暑さの中).
Versus what you know
- N3「〜最中に」says something cut in right in the middle of one action (会議の最中に電話が鳴った), and 「〜うちに」marks the time before something changes.
- 「中」instead puts a long-running trend or situation (進む・続く・広がる・高まる) behind the main sentence like a stage backdrop.
Watch out
- Don't mix it up with the 「ちゅう」of 工事中・会議中 ('in progress').
- The key rule: what comes before must be a situation that continues for some time — a one-moment event like 「電車に乗った中」can't go there.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 物価の上昇が続く = price rises continue (a long trend) → 「中（なか）、」= in this climate → then the main news: 注目が集まっている = attention is turning to it.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) お忙しい = (you) are busy (い-adj) → 「中」 directly = while you are busy → お集まりいただき = for gathering → ありがとうございます. The opening line of meetings and speeches.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 記録的な暑さ = record-breaking heat (a noun) → it's a noun, so 「の」 → 「中、」= amid that heat → then the news: 運ばれる人が相次いだ = people kept being taken to the hospital, one after another.
