〜旨 (~mune) — to the effect that ~
The formal way to say 'the message that ~' — the gist of what is told or written.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- Call in sick at work and your manager says: 「お客様には、その旨伝えておきます」— 'I'll let the customer know that.'
- The news has 「首相は辞任する旨を表明した」, and city-office forms say 「欠席の場合はその旨をご記入ください」.
- With a friend 「遅れるって言っといた」is enough; 「旨」belongs to email, the office and the news.
Meaning
「旨(むね)」means 'the main point, the gist of a message'. So 「〜旨を伝える」is not a word-for-word quote but passing on the gist: 'something to the effect that…'.
How to attach
- Attach it straight after the plain form of a verb or い-adjective (参加する旨); after a noun use 「の」(欠席の旨) or 「である」(担当者である旨); to point back to what was just said, use 「その旨」.
- The verb that follows is always about communicating: 伝える・連絡する・記入する・発表する・述べる.
Versus what you know
N3At N3 you learned 「〜ということ」and 「〜とのこと」, and in L29 「〜との連絡」— close in meaning, but 「旨」is stiffer and more paper-like, and because it is a noun itself it takes 「を・の・が」directly: 遅れる旨を伝える・退職する旨の連絡.
Watch out
In other words, 「旨」is only the content of something said or written — it cannot mean 'thing' or 'activity' in general, as in 「遊ぶ旨が好きだ」.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 明日の会議に少し遅れる = I'll be a little late for tomorrow's meeting (plain form) → we attach 「旨を」 = the message that… → then the verb of telling: メールで伝えました = I told them by email.

せいふは、らいねんどからせいどをみなおすむねをはっぴょうした。

けっせきされるばあいは、そのむねをたんとうしゃまでごれんらくください。

「契約を更新しない__、書面でお知らせいたします。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: What is the object of お知らせする?
