〜たく存じます (~taku zonjimasu) — I would like to ~ (formal)
The most polite form of 「〜たいと思います」— the heart of wishes and requests in business email.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- After you apply for a job in Japan, the company emails back: 「つきましては、面接にお越しいただきたく存じます」— 'we would therefore like you to come for an interview.'
- With friends and colleagues 「〜たいです」is right; this is the language of email, letters and formal speeches.
Meaning
- So 「〜たいと思います」→「〜たく存じます」: same meaning, but in a suit and tie.
- It has two uses: your own wish (近いうちに伺いたく存じます = I would like to visit you soon), and the far more common one — a request, 「〜ていただきたく存じます」(ご確認いただきたく存じます = I would like you to check it).
- Instead of saying 'please do it', you say 'I would like…', so it sounds very soft.
How to attach
- The form is built from two pieces. First, 「〜たく」— 「〜たい」with its い turned into く.
- Second, 「存じる」from the N2 business keigo — the humble word for 「思う」.
- Attach it by taking the ます-form of a verb, dropping ます and adding 「たく存じます」(伺い+たく存じます).
- In email you also meet 「〜たく、」linking two sentences: 「ご確認いただきたく、資料を添付いたします」.
Watch out
The key rule: it is only the writer's or speaker's own wish — you can't say 「田中さんは帰国したく存じます」.

「詳しい資料をお送り__存じます。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: Before 存じます, たい changes its shape.
たい → たく + 存じます. お送りしたく存じます = I would like to send. 「したい存じます」would need 「と」in between, and 「して」「する」don't attach.
In which sentence is 「たく存じます」unnatural?
💡 Hint: Whose wish is it?
たく存じます is only the writer's own wish. For a third person's wish, say something like 「田中さんは帰国を希望しています」.
How would you say 「ご確認いただきたく存じます」in ordinary language?
💡 Hint: いただく = もらう, 存じます = 思います.
いただきたく存じます = もらいたいと思います = I'd like you to check it (a request). The others are hearsay, permission, or someone else's wish.
