    〜のほど (~no hodo) — (softens a request) kindly ~

Softens a request instead of saying 'please do' straight out — the word of the last line of business email.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    お/ご + N + のほど + よろしくお願いいたします

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • Once you start working in a Japanese office, almost every email you read ends like this: 「ご確認のほど、よろしくお願いいたします」— 'kindly check it.'
    • Construction notices at stations say 「ご理解のほどお願い申し上げます」too.
    • This is polite written and telephone language, not something you say to friends.

    Meaning

    • The feeling here is the same 'about' — instead of naming 'checking' directly, you say 'something like checking', blurring it a little, and that blur is what makes the request soft and polite.
    • 「確認してください」can sound like an order; 「ご確認のほど」takes the edge off.

    How to attach

Attach 「のほど」to a noun with the honorific 「お/ご」, and almost always follow it with 「よろしくお願いいたします/お願い申し上げます」: ご確認のほど・ご理解のほど・ご協力のほど・ご検討のほど.

    Versus what you know

N3At N3 you learned 「ほど」as 'about, to the extent' (三日ほど・死ぬほど).

    Watch out

The key rule: the noun in front is an action the reader does; a verb cannot attach directly (確認するのほど ×).
