When to use it
- Your job interview is over, and at the end the staff member says: 「結果は後日、書面をもってお知らせいたします」— 'We will inform you of the result later in writing.'
- It is used in official notices, speeches and ceremonies.
Meaning
- 「をもって」= 'by this means, method or quality' — the stiff version of the 「で」in everyday 「書面で・メールで」.
- Not only means but qualities like 誠意・熱意・努力 can come before it (「誠意をもって対応いたします」).
- The set phrase 「身をもって」(firsthand, with one's own body) is very common.

Versus what you know
- In lesson 3 you learned the date 「をもって」in 「本日をもって閉店」(ending as of this day).
- To tell them apart: a date or time before it means 'ending'; a means or quality means 'by'.
Watch out
It is not used for everyday physical tools — 「はしをもってご飯を食べる」「バスをもって行く」are wrong; plain 「で」there.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 書面 = a written document / letter (the means) → attach 「をもって」 = by letter → then a formal action: 通知いたします — the language of a notice from a landlord or company.
彼は誠意をもって謝罪し、取引先の信頼を取り戻した。
かれはせいいをもってしゃざいし、とりひきさきのしんらいをとりもどした。
He apologized with sincerity and won back the client's trust.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 誠意 = sincerity (a quality) → 「をもって」 = with sincerity → then 謝罪し (apologized) → 信頼を取り戻した (won back their trust).

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 身 = body, oneself → 「をもって」: 身をもって = by going through it yourself (a set expression) → then 知った (learned).
