〜ことのないよう(に) (~koto no nai yō (ni)) — so that ~ does not happen (formal)

The formal 「ないように」— the language of notices, office mail and apologies.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    V辞書形 + ことのないよう(に)

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • There was a mistake at your company, and the next day HR mailed everyone: 「同じミスを繰り返すことのないよう、確認を徹底してください」— 'Check thoroughly so that the same mistake is not repeated.'
    • For notices, warnings, office mail and apologies at press conferences (「二度とこのようなことのないよう努めてまいります」).
    • With friends, plain 「ないように」is right.

    Meaning

    • 「ことのないよう(に)」= 'so that ~ does not happen' — the formal, stiff version of 「ないように」.
    • What follows is care or effort: 〜てください・注意する・努める・〜ておく.

    How to attach

    • Verb dictionary form + 「ことのないよう(に)」: 遅れることのないよう・起きることのないよう
    • Leaving out 「に」sounds even stiffer
    • With a noun, 「こと」drops: 「Nのないよう」— the train's 「お忘れ物のないよう」is exactly that.

    Versus what you know

N4The meaning is exactly that of 「〜ないように」(遅れないように).

    Watch out

What comes before is always something that must not happen (遅れる・慌てる・事故が起きる・漏れる); put something good there and the sentence turns upside down.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    同じ事故が二度と起きることのないよう、安全対策を見直します。

    おなじじこがにどとおきることのないよう、あんぜんたいさくをみなおします。

We will review our safety measures so that the same accident never happens again.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 起きる = to happen (an accident) → attach 「ことのないよう」 to the dictionary form → then the company's effort: 安全対策を見直します — the style of an apology and announcement.

    書類の提出が遅れることのないよう、期限を必ず確認してください。

    しょるいのていしゅつがおくれることのないよう、きげんをかならずかくにんしてください。

Please be sure to check the deadline so that your documents are not submitted late.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 遅れる = to be late → 「ことのないよう」 → then an instruction: 確認してください — like a notice from an office or city hall.

    試験当日に道に迷うことのないよう、前の週に会場まで行ってみた。

    しけんとうじつにみちにまようことのないよう、まえのしゅうにかいじょうまでいってみた。

So as not to get lost on exam day, I went to the venue the week before to check.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 道に迷う = to get lost → 「ことのないよう」 → then the preparation done in advance: 会場まで行ってみた.

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

    「お客様にご迷惑をおかけする___、十分注意いたします。」— fill the blank.

    💡 Hint: こと + の + ない + よう — get the order right.
