    〜からといって (~kara to itte) — just because ~, (it doesn't mean)

'Just because' — the から that rejects a reason as not enough.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    Verb V普通形 + からといって
    い-adj い-adj + からといって
    な-adj な-adj + だ + からといって
    N N + だ + からといって
    Verb 普通形 + からって(話し言葉)

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • When a friend says 「安いから買おう」, you answer 「安いからといって、いいものとは限らないよ」(just because it is cheap does not mean it is good).
    • It often sounds like advice or a mild scolding.

    Meaning

    • In Nepali we say 'jāpān mā baseko bhandaimā…' — that 'bhandaimā' (just because) is 「〜からといって」: 「日本に住んでいるからといって、日本語が話せるようになるわけではない」.
    • Someone argues 'this reason exists, so surely this follows'; you reject it: 'that reason alone is not enough'.
    • What follows is usually a partial negative — 「〜とは限らない」「〜わけではない」「〜とはいえない」.
    • Or a warning like 「〜てはいけない」「〜ないと…」: 「忙しいからといって、朝ご飯を抜いてはいけませんよ」.

    How to attach

    • The plain form of verbs, adjectives and nouns as they are + からといって
    • For な-adjectives and nouns 「だ」stays: 連休だからといって・好きじゃないからといって
    • In speech it shortens to 「からって」: 「好きだからって、そればかり食べないで」

    Versus what you know

N4「から」gives a reason; 「からといって」takes that same reason and then denies that it is enough.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    日本に住んでいるからといって、日本語が上手になるわけではない。

    にほんにすんでいるからといって、にほんごがじょうずになるわけではない。

Just because you live in Japan does not mean your Japanese will get good.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 住んでいる = is living → attach 「からといって」 directly to the 普通形 → then a partial denial: 〜わけではない.

    値段が安いからといって、品質が悪いとは限らない。

    ねだんがやすいからといって、ひんしつがわるいとはかぎらない。

Just because the price is low does not mean the quality is bad.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 安い = cheap (い-adj) → attach 「からといって」 to it as it is → then "that doesn't mean it will be so": 〜とは限らない.

    疲れているからといって、連絡もしないで休んではいけませんよ。

    つかれているからといって、れんらくもしないでやすんではいけませんよ。

Just because you are tired, you must not take the day off without even calling in.

    How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 疲れている = is tired → 「からといって」 → then a sentence that reminds: 〜てはいけません (the 店長's voice).

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

    「連休_からといって、店は休めない。」— fill the blank.
