〜につき (~ni tsuki) — due to (public notice)
The ので of posters and notices — gives the reason for a closure, stop or cancellation.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- Living in Japan you see these every day: on the コンビニ door 「本日は祝日につき、休業いたします」, on the station toilet 「清掃中につき、ご利用になれません」, on the road 「工事中につき通行止め」.
- Only for posters, official letters and shop boards; say 「祝日につき」out loud and you sound like a robot.
Meaning
- 「につき」= the ので of notices: 'for this reason, this is the situation now', told to everyone.
- What follows is usually a closure, stop or cancellation: 休業・中止・閉まっています・ご利用になれません.
How to attach
- Straight after a noun: 「につき」
- That noun must describe the situation right now — 清掃中・工事中・祝日・雨天・強風・オープン.
Versus what you know
- N4「から・ので」works anywhere, spoken or written.
- N3「ため(に)」is a bit formal but still attaches to verbs; 「につき」is stiffer still.
Watch out
- It never follows a verb or adjective (×雨が降るにつき, ×頭が痛いにつき).
- It never gives your private reason (a headache, laziness), because it is a public announcement.
Also
In 「一人につき500円」, 「につき」means 'per' — a different meaning, not a reason.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

エレベーターはてんけんちゅうにつき、ごりようになれません。
The elevator is under inspection and is not available for use.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 点検中 = under inspection (〜中 tells the current state) → 「につき」 → then the restriction: ご利用になれません.
工事中につき、この入口は使えません。
こうじちゅうにつき、このいりぐちはつかえません。
Due to construction work, this entrance cannot be used.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 工事中 = under construction → 「につき」 → then the closure notice: この入口は使えません.
