    〜っこない (~kkonai) — no way (can) ~ (spoken)

'No way, not a chance' between friends — the casual cousin of わけがない.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    Verb Vます + っこない

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • Chatting with a friend: 「一日でこんなにたくさんの漢字、覚えられっこないよ」(no way I can memorise this many kanji in a day).
    • A spoken word — for home, friends and talking to yourself.

    Meaning

「〜っこない」= 'absolutely not, not a chance' — emphatic, sometimes with an annoyed or defeated tone.

    How to attach

    • ます-stem + っこない (don't forget the small っ).
    • It usually rides on the N4 potential form: 受かる → 受かりっこない, 覚えられる → 覚えられっこない, できる → できっこない

    Versus what you know

    • N3It is exactly the friends-version of 「わけがない・はずがない」— same meaning, but っこない is for casual speech only.
    • 「あり得ない」is written/stiff, 「っこない」is speech — that is the difference.

    Watch out

    • Used for negative things only.
    • Say 「できっこないです」to a customer or the 店長 and it sounds rude — use 「できかねます」or 「あり得ません」there.

    いまのきゅうりょうじゃ、いえなんてかえっこない。
