When to use it

A friend who is late every day got told off by the 店長 — you say: 「毎日遅刻していたら、店長に怒られて当然だ」(if you are late every day, of course the manager gets angry).

Meaning

「〜て当然だ」= whatever result your actions brought, you had it coming — 'of course'.
It also says that, given the reason, something is only natural and no surprise: 駅から1分なら家賃が高くて当然だ.
