それなのに (sorenanoni) — and yet (a complaint)

All that effort and the opposite result — a complaint:

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

I did all I could and the result came out the opposite — when you are hurt and say 'even after all that!'.

    Meaning

    • 「それなのに」= 'and yet' — it picks up the previous sentence and brings an unexpected, opposite result, in the voice of a complaint.
(I practise every day. And yet I am not getting any better.)

    How to attach

    • It starts the sentence, with a 「、」after it: 文。
    • It is as if the 「のに」inside a sentence had been pulled out to the front: 練習しているのに、うまくならない → 練習している。

    Versus what you know

    • N3Like 「ところが」it introduces an unexpected result, but それなのに carries more hurt — 'even after all that!'.

    Watch out

What follows is always contrary to expectation, usually bad — 「高かった。それなのに、とてもおいしかった」✗ (expensive and delicious is the expected pairing).

I've been taking the medicine every day. And yet the fever won't go down.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 薬を飲んでいる = I'm taking medicine (the effort) → the sentence ends → 「それなのに」 = and yet (a complaint) → then the opposite result: 熱が下がらない.

I practice Japanese every day. And yet I just don't get any better.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 練習している = I practice (the effort) → 「それなのに」 = and yet (a complaint) → the opposite result: なかなか上手にならない.

I made a proper reservation. And yet when I got to the restaurant there was no table.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 予約した = I booked → 「それなのに」 = and yet → a result against expectations: 席がなかった — you can hear anger and complaint.

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

— fill the blank.

💡 Hint: Effort made, opposite result — the complaining tone.
