特別な敬語の言葉(お見えになる・承る・拝借する…) (tokubetsu na keigo no kotoba) — special honorific / humble vocabulary (business)
One level above N4's いらっしゃる・まいる — the words used with customers and client companies.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- At the convenience store or on the phone N4 敬語 is enough.
- But when someone from a 取引先 (a client company) walks into the office, or when you read a customer's mail, a few more 'special' words appear — this is the N2 business set.
Meaning
- 尊敬語 = raises what a そと person (customer, another company) does.
- 謙譲語 = keeps your own and your company's actions low.
- This page collects the 'special' business words of both kinds.
How to attach
- Respect — a customer 'came': not 「来ました」but 「田中様がお見えになりました」or 「お越しになりました」
- Respect — for 'come / go / be' all three, 「おいでになる」(お車でおいでになりましたか); with 〜ている, 「〜ておいでになる」
- Humble — 'I took' an order or booking = 「承る」(ご予約は私、ラマが承りました)
- Humble — 'I showed' = 「ご覧に入れる」, 'I looked at' = 「拝見する」, 'I met' = 「お目にかかる」
- Humble — 'I asked / I went' = 「伺う」, 'I borrowed' = 「拝借する」, 'I know' = 「存じております」
- Humble — 'I'll pass it on' to a colleague = 「申し伝える」
- Humble — 〜ていく/〜てくる become 「〜てまいる」(電車でまいりました)
Versus what you know
N4You learned the base of 敬語: 尊敬語 — いらっしゃる・ご覧になる・なさる・おっしゃる; 謙譲語 — まいる・おる・いたす・申す・いただく; plus the お〜になる/お〜する patterns.
Watch out
- Do not swap the pairs, or the meaning flips: ご覧に入れる = I show, お目にかかる = I meet.
- 申す = I say, 承る = I hear / accept; まいる = I come or go, おいでになる = you come.
- 存じる = I know, ご存じです = you know.
- The big N4 rule still holds — in front of a customer you never raise your own 店長 or colleague: not 「田中さんはいらっしゃいません」but 「田中はただ今席を外しております」.
Also
Short forms like 「お見えです」「お越しの方」「お越しください」「おいでの際」「おいでいただく」are also used — that is what you hear in event announcements and at stations.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
3時に取引先の田中様がお見えになりましたので、会議室にご案内しました。
3じにとりひきさきのたなかさまがおみえになりましたので、かいぎしつにごあんないしました。
Tanaka from our client company arrived at three, so I showed them to the meeting room.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 田中様 = the client (そと) → for "came", not 来ました but the special word お見えになりました → then my own action in 謙譲: ご案内しました (ご〜する).
ご予約は私、ラマが承りました。
ごよやくはわたし、ラマがうけたまわりました。
I, Lama, have taken your reservation.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 承る = the 謙譲語 of 聞く・引き受ける → my own name (うち) + 承りました → saying "I took it" this way puts the customer above → on the phone, this is the sentence after ご注文・ご予約.
田中はただ今席を外しておりますので、戻りましたら申し伝えます。
たなかはただいませきをはずしておりますので、もどりましたらもうしつたえます。
Tanaka is away from the desk at the moment. I will pass on your message when Tanaka returns.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 田中 = someone from my own company → in front of a client, we drop さん → いる → おる (おります) → for "I'll pass it on", not 伝えます but 申し伝えます (謙譲).
Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)
Someone from the client company has arrived. Reception says: 「田中様が__。」
💡 Hint: The customer came — respectful or humble?
An outside person 'coming' = お見えになる (respectful). まいる is for yourself, 拝見する is 'I look', お目にかかる is 'I meet'.
Which sentence is wrong?
💡 Hint: Do you raise your own colleague in front of a customer?
An inside person stays low in front of a customer: 田中はただ今席を外しております. Drop both さん and いらっしゃる.
Which one is 'I (humbly) meet you'?
💡 Hint: Do not mix it up with ご覧に入れる.
お目にかかる = humble 会う. ご覧に入れる = I show, ご覧になる = you look, お見えになる = you come.
