    お/ご〜願います (o/go~negaimasu) — please ~ / could you please ~ (very polite request)

A request one notch above お〜ください — on notices, forms and in mail to a client.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    Verb お + Vます [ます] + 願います/願えますか/願えますでしょうか
    Verb G3 ご + N + 願います/願えますか/願えますでしょうか
    Verb お/ご〜 + 願いたいのですが…

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • You see it every day in mail to a client company and on shop notices.
    • After sending a quotation you write to the client 「添付の見積書をご確認願えますでしょうか」(could you please check the attached quotation?).
    • On the door it says 「スリッパのご使用はご遠慮願います」, on the form 「各自でご用意願います」.

    Meaning

「お/ご〜願います」means the same as 「お/ご〜いただく/ください」— a polite request in business settings.

    How to attach

    • It attaches exactly like N4's お〜ください: a Japanese verb takes お + the ます-stem (待ちます → お待ち願います)
    • A する-noun takes ご + N (確認 → ご確認願います)
    • 「願います」— sounds like a direct instruction: notices and forms
    • 「願えますか」— a softer question: to a customer at the counter
    • 「願えますでしょうか」— the softest: mail or phone to a client or someone above you
    • 「願いたいのですが…」trails off politely, which also works.

    Versus what you know

    • N4You learned 「〜てください」for 'please do', and for customers 「お待ちください」「ご記入ください」.
    • N3By N3 you also used 「〜ていただけますか」; 「願います」is the business word one notch above.

    Watch out

    • It is always for something the other person does, never your own action.
    • Say 「ちょっと待ち願える?」to a friend and it sounds like a shop announcement — there 「待って」is right.
