〜だけあって (~dake atte) — just as you'd expect of
Praise meaning 'given that, of course it's like this' — 「有名な店だけあって、おいしい」= a famous shop, so of course it's good.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- 「〜だけあって」= 'precisely because, just as expected' — the praise 'given that, this is natural, just as you'd expect'.
- For example: 「10年も日本に住んでいるだけあって、敬語が上手だ」(as you'd expect of someone who has lived in Japan ten years, his keigo is excellent).
How to attach
- Plain form + だけあって
- な-adj takes 「な」: 有名なだけあって
- A noun drops 「だ」: 一流ホテルだけあって; formally 「である」; in casual speech you also hear 「な」(プロなだけあって)
- At the end of a sentence: 「〜だけのことはある」— 「高かっただけのことはある」(it was worth the high price)
Versus what you know
- N3「から/ので」only gives a reason; 「だけあって」adds the praise 'precisely because it is so'.
- After the next page's 「〜だけに」good or bad can follow; after 「だけあって」, a high evaluation.
Watch out
「だけあって」is followed by a high evaluation — never by a future or a guess (〜だろう).
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
彼は10年も日本に住んでいるだけあって、敬語がとても上手だ。
かれはじゅうねんもにほんにすんでいるだけあって、けいごがとてもじょうずだ。
As you'd expect of someone who's lived in Japan for a full ten years, his keigo is excellent.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 住んでいる = living (普通形) → 「だけあって」 = precisely because of that, just as expected → then the praise: 敬語が上手だ = good at keigo (not a future or a guess).
有名な店だけあって、ラーメンは本当においしかった。
ゆうめいなみせだけあって、ラーメンはほんとうにおいしかった。
It's a famous shop, so as you'd expect, the ramen was really good.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 有名な店 = a famous shop (N) → attach 「だけあって」 directly, without 「だ」 → then the praise: 本当においしかった.
さすがプロの選手だけあって、動きが全然違う。
さすがプロのせんしゅだけあって、うごきがぜんぜんちがう。
As you'd expect of a pro player, the way they move is on another level.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) プロの選手 = a pro player (N) → 「だけあって」 → 「さすが」 in front makes the "just as expected" feeling even stronger → then the praise: 動きが全然違う.

Which sentence is wrong?
💡 Hint: Can a guess follow だけあって?
「だけあって」takes an observed, sure evaluation — never a future or guess (だろう). It must be 「おいしい」.
「この店は値段が_だけあって、味もいい。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: Plain form before だけあって.
い-adj as is + だけあって: 高いだけあって = being expensive, as you'd expect (it tastes good too).
「このかばんは本当に丈夫だ。高かった_。」— fill the blank.
💡 Hint: The sentence ends here.
At the end of a sentence, 「だけのことはある」: 高かっただけのことはある = it was worth the high price. だけあって and だけに need another clause after them.
