    〜に伴って (~ni tomonatte) — along with / accompanying (a change or event)

The formal cousin of につれて — news, notices and company language; not only for change but for whatever comes with an event.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    N N + に伴って/に伴い
    Verb V辞書形 + に伴って/に伴い
    N N + に伴う + N

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

    • You hear it in the news, company notices, government paperwork and station announcements; to a friend it sounds heavy.
    • On TV, for example: 「台風の接近に伴い、大雨注意報が出されています」(with the typhoon approaching, a heavy-rain advisory has been issued).

    Meaning

    • 「〜に伴って」(にともなって) = when one thing changes or happens, something else comes along with it.
    • It is not only for change: it also covers whatever comes together with an event — 「道路工事に伴う通行止め」(the road closure that goes with the roadworks), 「本社移転に伴って新しいシステムが入った」.

    How to attach

    • Noun (also a する-noun) bare + に伴って: 「増加に伴って」
    • A verb takes dictionary form + に伴って/に伴い (増えるに伴い)
    • 「〜に伴い」is shorter and more written.
    • Before a noun: 「〜に伴う N」(工事に伴う騒音)

    Versus what you know

    • N3You learned 「〜につれて」and「〜とともに」— 「日本に来て日がたつにつれて、日本語が上手になった」: as one thing goes on, another changes with it.
    • に伴って is the same idea in a suit, but it differs from につれて in three ways:
    • First, につれて needs a 'gradually more' word before it (進む・上がる・多くなる) and carries a step-by-step feel; に伴って looks at the change as a whole.
    • Second, after につれて only a natural change can follow; after に伴って a human decision can follow too — 「留学生の増加に伴って、クラスを増やすことにした」.
    • Third, 工事 and 移転 are events, not changes — so につれて cannot be used in those examples; only に伴って can.
    • 「とともに」can also just mean "together with" (友達とともに); 「に伴って」is used only when one change or event brings another, and it is more formal and written.

    Watch out

    • No する on a する-noun: 「増加に伴って」✅, 「増加するに伴って」❌
    • Both sides of the sentence must name a change or an event.

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    会社の移転に伴って、通勤時間が長くなった。

    かいしゃのいてんにともなって、つうきんじかんがながくなった。

With the company's move, my commute got longer.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 移転 = relocation (a する-noun) → without する, we attach 「に伴って」 directly → then the change that came with it: 通勤時間が長くなった.

    外国人が増えるに伴い、市役所の案内も多言語になってきた。

    がいこくじんがふえるにともない、しやくしょのあんないもたげんごになってきた。

As the number of foreigners has grown, city hall notices have become multilingual too.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 増える = to increase → V辞書形 as it is + 「に伴い」 (the short written form) → then the other change happening alongside: 多言語になってきた.

    道路工事に伴う通行止めのため、バスが遅れています。

    どうろこうじにともなうつうこうどめのため、バスがおくれています。

The bus is running late because of the road closure that comes with the road construction.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 道路工事 = road construction (an event, not a change) → it has to go before a noun, so 「に伴う」 → 通行止め = road closed → because of that, the bus is late.

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

    「輸出の_に伴い、工場を増やした。」— fill the blank.
