〜もかまわず (~mo kamawazu) — heedless of / not caring about
Not caring who is watching — 人目もかまわず.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
- On the morning train you have probably seen someone doing their make-up, ignoring everyone watching — Japanese people describe that as 「人目もかまわず化粧している」.
- It is mostly said to criticise someone's behaviour.
Meaning
- 「〜もかまわず」= 'doing … without caring about something one would normally mind'.
- What follows is unusual, surprising behaviour.
How to attach
- N + もかまわず (人目・値段・迷惑)
- With a clause: plain form + の + もかまわず (服が汚れるのもかまわず)
- な-adjectives and nouns take 「な/である」+ の (入院中であるのもかまわず)
- Set phrase: 「ところかまわず」(anywhere at all)
Versus what you know
- N4「気にしないで」(気にしないで行った) is ordinary and soft, fine even about yourself.
- 「もかまわず」looks at someone else's behaviour from the outside — 'wow, they did not care at all' — a harder, more written word.
Watch out
- No wish or request of your own may follow — you do not say 「人目もかまわず踊りたい」or「人目もかまわず踊りましょう」.
- This pattern reports what someone else did.

おとうとはふくがよごれるのもかまわず、あめのなかでサッカーをつづけた。

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 服が汚れる = clothes get dirty (a clause) → add 「の」 to make it a noun → 「もかまわず」 → then the surprising action: 雨の中で続けた.
隣の人が迷惑しているのもかまわず、彼は電車の中で大きな音で音楽を聞いていた。
となりのひとがめいわくしているのもかまわず、かれはでんしゃのなかでおおきなおとでおんがくをきいていた。
Not caring that the person next to him was bothered, he was listening to music loudly on the train.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 迷惑している = is being bothered → 「の」 → 「もかまわず」 = without caring about that at all → then behavior that deserves criticism.
