〜に対して (~ni taishite) — toward / whereas
Who an attitude is aimed at — or how two things stand opposite.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- 「〜に対して」has two uses.
- The first and easier one marks who an attitude or action is aimed at: 「お客さんに対して、ていねいに話す」= speak politely toward customers.
- The second sets two things in direct contrast: 「兄は静かなのに対して、弟はよく話す」= whereas my older brother is quiet, my younger brother talks a lot.
How to attach
- In this second use the front takes 「〜のに対して」.
- Before a noun it is 「〜に対する N」: 「客に対する態度」.
