Meaning
「〜について」marks the topic you are talking, asking or writing about: 「店長とシフトについて話した」= I talked with the manager about the shifts.
How to attach
- Before a noun it becomes 「〜についての N」: 「日本についての本」.
- Verbs like 話す, 聞く, 書く and 調べる usually follow.
Versus what you know
- N3Its formal twin is 「〜に関して」— same meaning, but more common in writing and at work.
- N3Don't confuse it with 「〜にとって」: について = the topic, にとって = the viewpoint.
