    〜とおり・どおり (~toori / ~doori) — exactly as

Just as it was said, just as it was planned — exactly so.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

    Verb V辞書形/Vた + とおり(に)
    N N + どおり(に)
    N N + の + とおり(に)

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    When to use it

At work you hear 「指示どおり」and 「説明どおり」every day.

    Meaning

N3 adds the other member of the family: attached straight to a noun it becomes 「〜どおり」, with the sound shifting from と to ど: 「予定どおり」= as planned, 「時間どおり」= on time.

    How to attach

    • You can also say 「予定のとおり」with の, but the short どおり is more common.
    • With verbs the familiar 「〜とおり(に)」stays: 「先生が言ったとおりに書いた」.

    Versus what you know

    N4At N4 you learned 「〜とおりに」(just as ~ said).

    Examples (उदाहरणहरू)

    予定どおり、5時に終わりました。

    よていどおり、ごじにおわりました。

It finished at five, just as planned.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 予定 is a noun → when it attaches straight to a noun, と becomes ど → 予定どおり = according to plan.

    先生が言ったとおりに書きました。

    せんせいがいったとおりにかきました。

I wrote it exactly as the teacher said.

    How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 言う → た-form 言った → attach とおりに to it → with a verb, と stays と; it doesn't become ど.

    電車は時間どおりに来ました。

    でんしゃはじかんどおりにきました。

The train came right on time.

How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 時間 is a noun → attach どおり → add に to it to link it to the verb.

    Knowledge check (मिनी ज्ञान जाँच)

    Question: 1/3

    「予定_、始めましょう。」— fill the blank.

💡 Hint: The sound shifts when it attaches straight to a noun.
