〜に限る・くらいなら (~ni kagiru / ~kurai nara) — nothing beats / rather than
"This is best" and "rather than that" — two comparative choices.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- Two related patterns.
- 「〜に限る」= "nothing beats this": 「疲れた時は、寝るに限る」= when you're tired, nothing beats sleep.
- It states a firm personal view and sounds decisive.
- 「〜くらいなら」= "rather than do that": 「あきらめるくらいなら、もう一度やってみる」= rather than give up, I'll try once more — the first option is bad, the second better.
How to attach
Both に限る and くらいなら take the dictionary form; に限る also takes nouns (「夏はビールに限る」).
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
疲れた時は、寝るに限る。
つかれたときは、ねるにかぎる。
When you're tired, nothing beats sleep.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 寝る is the plain form → attach に限る straight to it → it becomes a firm opinion: 'this is the best thing'.
あきらめるくらいなら、もう一度やってみる。
あきらめるくらいなら、もういちどやってみる。
Rather than give up, I'll try once more.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) あきらめる is the plain form → attach くらいなら → the better option comes after → it means 'rather than that, this'.
夏は冷たいビールに限る。
なつはつめたいビールにかぎる。
In summer, nothing beats a cold beer.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) ビール is a noun → attach に限る straight to it → the same pattern works with a noun too.
