〜ように言う・〜なと言う (~you ni iu / ~na to iu) — tell someone to / not to
The soft way to report an order or request — who told whom to do what.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
Meaning
- The softest, safest way to report an order or request is 「〜ように言う」: 「母に毎日電話するように言われた」= my mother told me to call every day.
- ように conveys the gist rather than the exact words, so it works for a boss, a teacher, a parent — anyone.
How to attach
- Besides 言う you can use 頼む, 注意する or 伝える.
- The negative is 「〜ないように言う」.
- To quote the words exactly, a prohibition uses 「〜なと言う」: 「店長に『さわるな』と言われた」= the manager said "don't touch it" — strong and direct.
