〜ようになっている (~you ni natte iru) — is set up so that
Machines, systems, rules — "it's designed to do this".
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
Very useful at work for explaining machines and procedures: 「ボタンを押すと、水が出るようになっている」.
Meaning
- This is the ている-form of N4's 「〜ようになる」(come to), but the meaning differs — it says a machine, system or rule is set up to work a certain way: 「このドアは自動で開くようになっている」= this door is designed to open automatically.
- It implies someone deliberately arranged it so.
Versus what you know
N3It resembles Lesson 17's 「〜ことになっている」(the rule is) — that is for human rules, this for how things are built.
