〜は…ことだ (~wa ...koto da) — what X is, is to
"What matters is to keep going every day" — pinning down the key thing.
Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)
Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)
When to use it
Very useful in essays and speeches for stating your main point.
Meaning
「〜は…ことだ」defines the key thing — "what X is, is to do Y": 「大切なのは、毎日続けることだ」= what matters is to keep going every day.
How to attach
A topic like 「大切なのは」, 「必要なのは」or 「私の夢は」comes first, then a dictionary-form verb + ことだ.
Versus what you know
N3It shares its shape with Lesson 19's 「〜ことだ」(advice), but here there is a 「〜は」topic.
Watch out
Here こと nominalises the verb (Lesson 3) and の cannot replace it — 「続けるのだ」means something else.
Examples (उदाहरणहरू)
大切なのは、毎日続けることだ。
たいせつなのは、まいにちつづけることだ。
What matters is to keep going every day.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 大切なのは is the topic → 続ける is the plain form → ことだ → a definition: 'X is doing Y'.
私の夢は、日本で店を開くことです。
わたしのゆめは、にほんでみせをひらくことです。
My dream is to open a shop in Japan.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 夢は is the topic → 開く → ことです → the dream is stated.
今必要なのは、休むことだ。
いまひつようなのは、やすむことだ。
What's needed now is rest.
How it is built (कसरी बन्यो) 必要なのは → 休む → ことだ.
