今にも〜そうだ (ima ni mo ~sou da) — any moment now

"Looks like it'll rain any second" — the sign that it's about to happen.

    Formula (सूत्र ढाँचा)

Verb 今にも + Vます [ます] + そうだ

    Grammar rule (व्याकरण नियम र परिभाषा)

    Meaning

    • 「今にも〜そうだ」says something looks about to happen this very moment: 「今にも雨が降りそうだ」= it looks like it'll rain any second.
    • 今にも tends toward worrying things: 泣きそう, 倒れそう, 落ちそう.

    Versus what you know

N4Adding 「今にも」to 「〜そうだ」(looks like) stresses "right now" — a fixed pair, and そうだ is required.

    Watch out

「今に」without も is different — "one day, before long": 「今に分かる」= you'll understand some day.
