〜はずがありません / 〜はずでした (~hazu ga arimasen / ~hazu deshita) — Cannot possibly be / was supposed to be

A strong denial — there is no way that is true — plus the "it was supposed to be, but it was not" form.

「はずがありません」says "there is no way that happens" — a strong denial.
One more form, 「はずでした」: it was supposed to happen but did not — 3時に着くはずでしたが、電車が遅れました.

It attaches exactly like 「はずです」: straight onto the plain form (普通形), な for a な-adjective, の for a noun.
With friends it becomes 「はずがない」, and a softer 「はずはありません」is also heard.

「〜ないはずです」is not the same as 「〜はずがありません」: 「田中さんは来ないはずです」= I have grounds, so I expect he will not come; 「田中さんが来るはずがありません」= there is no way he comes.
Which to pick? For the plain expectation "he probably will not come", use 「〜ないはずです」; to say "impossible", use 「はずがありません」.

Big trap: you do not build it as 「はずじゃない」— that does not work for this meaning.
