Timing — ところ, ばかり, はず
- 1 V dictionary form / V て いる / V た + ところです V-jisho / V-te iru / V-ta + tokoro desu Right at that moment One word covers three timings — about to do it, doing it right now, just finished it.
- 2 V た-form + ばかりです V-ta + bakari desu Only just did it The feeling that it only just happened — it still feels new to the speaker.
- 3 〜はずです ~hazu desu It should be / ought to be There is solid ground for it, so "it should be so" — not a shot in the dark.
- 4 〜はずが ありません / 〜はずでした ~hazu ga arimasen / ~hazu deshita Cannot possibly be / was supposed to be A strong denial — there is no way that is true — plus the "it was supposed to be, but it was not" form.
